Building an Epic 686 Fly Rod

Updated: Feb 4, 2019

The heart of this fiberglass 6 weight fly rod is an Epic 686 4-piece blank in amber color from Swift Fly Fishing, New Zealand. The grip is a fiberglass/carbon fiber one I fabricated in my own studio. In my opinion, the Unidirectional S-2 fiberglass material, superb tapers, butter smooth feel and stunning finish make the Epic glass series rod blanks the best on the planet. Want to really geek out? Check this link out and read all about the technology in the Epic blanks https://swiftflyfishing.com/pages/fiberglass-fly-rods

Though, even with a superb rod blank, a poorly executed build can result in a…meh…mediocre result. I show you how I do it in a multi-part video series, from start to finish...
