Epic 686 fiberglass fly rod in Amber

This is a completed fly rod built on one of the last three-piece Epic S-Glass fly rod blanks I have in the shop. The newer Epic blanks are four-piece and my price is reduced a bit as I make room for the new models. This is an exceptionally smooth casting fly rod with a moderate action, but still a “fast” action for fiberglass. It is classified as an 8-foot, 6-inch, 6-weight, yet it has the versatility to handle a range of lines between 5-7 weight very well. I’ve crafted the snub-nose half-wells grip and fighting butt from agglomerated cork with a light clear finish which still preserves the cork feel. I’ve been using more and more composite cork these days as flor-grade becomes more difficult to source.

Agglomerated cork is eco-friendly, extremely durable, and less costly than flor grade. I have passed along the savings to my customers. There is a rare-earth magnet embedded in the underside of the grip to serve as a hook keeper, a handy place to park a fly while you fuss with gear on the stream. The guides are dark nickel Snake Brand with one Silicon Carbide-ringed (SiC) stripping guide. All are wrapped with a teal Fuji Ultra-Poly thread and two coats of a two-part epoxy finish, The ferrules are wrapped with a translucent YLI 3/0 silk thread in Goldenrod color. Each ferrule has black alignment dots on the underside of the rod.

This one sold quickly but a custom build is available upon consignment. I will extend a 15% savings if purchased as a rod and reel outfit. This outfit package includes a new Aspen Reel of your choice and either a a Clear Creek aluminum rod tube, or a custom cloth covered tube and rod bag.
